Places to Go: Prohibition Pig Waterbury, VT
They had me at maple butter.
Waterbury Vermont on an October Saturday is leaf peeping paradise. Usually VT locals shy away from such chaos however, Prohibition Pig was in the heart of the chaos and that’s where we found ourselves. The restaurant was packed, the place was boisterous and loud, but a perfect place to hangout with friends and grab a delightful libation.
We were seated by the beautiful front window next to burlap pillows and natural lighting. Our waitress was attentive and friendly. Their drink menu was well rounded, their brewery items were showcased however I ended up with a cocktail that spoke, or rather sang to me. Singin’ the Blues is a fruity and light beverage with Singani 63, Cocchi Americano, elderberry liquor, and blueberry vinegar. The elderberry really made the drink delicious and highlighted the notes of blueberry vinegar.
Our table ordered the hush puppies with maple butter as a small plate. I’ll say it again; they had me at maple butter. The puppies were lightly fried and golden delicious and a must try. I’m not a big BBQ person, never have, never will so I ordered a burger medium well with an egg on top, because protein… My burger was perfection and my maple-baked beans were the perfect accompaniment. The rest of my table ordered the Hand Sliced Beef Brisket Sandwich and gave rave reviews on their sauce.
Go to Prohibition Pig if you want a down-home meal with a nice alcoholic beverage. Keep the kids at home for this stop and always remember, if it has maple butter, you must order it.
